Science officer's log: Stardate too early in the morning
We recently received a communique from Starfleet concerning the
disappearance of the USS Voyager. Apparently, she hasn't been heard
from for a few weeks now. The GRIM has been sent to her last known
coordinates for an investigation. In scanning the area, I discovered
an ion particle trail which seemed to lead to...nowhere. There were
also some faint traces of tachyon emissions, which would indicate some
sort of spatial distortion took place here within the last few weeks.
Though I cannot be sure, it is my guess that the Voyager was somehow
transported, perhaps violently, to another location. Long-range scans
have picked up no trace, yet I can only speculate whether or not the
phenomenon they encountered destroyed them or not. They could very
well still be alive in some faraway part of the galaxy.
End log.

It couldn't be happening. Not on the peaceful world known as Ptre'son.
Chaos had erupted, the wrath of the gods. Life as it was known on this
ancient world was being annhilated by terrors so alien, so hideous!
The formshifting beings had manifested themselves to consume and
eradicate all semblance of life. They would absorb the entire essence
of a lifeform, body and soul.
Raptor watched the carnage and knew that taking to the skies was
useless. These beings far outclassed his kind in every physical
cateogory. Even those considered the best fighters among his people
had no chance whatsoever. His race had lived for centuries, avoiding
the wrath of the gods. Had they done something to incur such anger?
He rushed inside his laboratory, built into a lofty mountainside.
What was he to do? Where was he to go? Quickly, he gathered up his
most important possessions and put them into a small sack. There
was no time to say goodbye to his family, to his loved ones. For
all he knew, they were already vanquished. Satisifed with his
preparations, he rushed into his nest room. Something huge smashed
through the rockface, generating tremendous heat and light. One
of them had found him.
Raptor dove at his nest and hurriedly fumbled for it. The daemon
launched its form at him, just as Raptor found his amulet. He
half expected to be obliterated, but nonetheless focused and tapped
into the medallion's properties by recalling the exact instructions
of the person who gave it to him.
" It will scatter you against the wind and send you across the
farthest reaches of the cosmos. In the twinkling of an eye. Use this
in your darkest hour to save yourself and the lore you have obtained!"
Instantly, he felt himself pulled into nothingness, then flying
at unbelievable speed. He could not feel his physical body, only
that he was gripped by some strange energy. Was he dead? The feeling
stopped as quick as it had come. And he was cast through a shining
sphere of light.

Deep Space Nine. Holosuite Two.
Dax sat atop of Smith's shoulders, engaged in a playfully chicken
fight with Linczer and Bashir. Smith felt akward, since Jadzia was
taller than him. Then something collided with the Trill and human,
knocking them hard into the shallow water. Tracey caught a glimpse of
a rust and magenta colored humanoid form.
" What on Earth?" Bashir remarked, startled.
Dax resurfaced, a little groggy and coughing.
"Where's Greg?" asked the doctor.
Smith did not emerge.
" Computer, end program," called Julian.
The watery environment vanished, but the participants remained wet.
They saw Greg lying on the floor, coughing up water. A life form of
sorts hunched over next to him, clutching a small sack.
" Where did that come from?" Nessie wondered.
He hovered over and peered at the creature which looked like a
humanoid bird. It had arms and legs and large wings like that of
an angel. The head, though resembled a bird of preys'. It sprang
up to its' feet and rapidly darted its' eyes from Nessie to Dax to
Linczer to Smith.
" Hello," greeted Nessie.
Raptor kicked the serpentine N'si hard then flew at Bashir, who
barely avoided being gutted. Raptor could not see an apparent way out
of the room.
"Dax to Odo! I need security in holosuite two!"
Smith took a defensive posture, as did Dax.
"Easy, we're not going to hurt you," Greg spoke in a soothing tone.
Raptor screamed like a banshee and flashed razor keen talons.
Odo, who had been nearby, rushed through the door along with
Lieutenant Johnson and two other officers. Raptor reacted quickly and
flew past them, overhead.
"Everyone alright?" Odo asked.
The four victims nodded in assent.
"Follow that life form, set your phasers on stun," the Constable
ordered. He turned to Dax. "What was that alien doing in the holosuite
with you anyway?"
Dax shrugged.
People all over the Promenade stared in horror as they saw the
scared and confused Raptor hovering near the ceiling. All the lifeforms
appeared to differ in many ways. Raptor saw the security team, then
resumed his flight, only to crash into a force field.
Another of his kind helped him up. The finned sauroid telekinetically
tapped a gadget on its skin.
"Stay calm," the being who looked like him said."We won't harm you."
Raptor understood its speech. "Who are you?"
Odo morphed back into his normal humanoid form. "I'm Constable Odo,
Chief of Security. Welcome to Deep Space Nine."
Raptor's eyes narrowed. "Am I supposed to find that comforting?"
"Kindly tell me how you got on board the station."
"I'll do nothing, demon." He reached inside his sack.
Nora, had crept up behind him. Before Raptor realized, she grabbed
him around the chest.
"Taft, lock onto my coordinates and transport us directly to the
GRIM's brig!" Nora requested.
The transporter's energies grabbed them and they vanished.

When they materialized in the brig, Nora noticed something wrong. Her
captive had lost consciousness or had gone into some sort of trance.
He lay in the cell, strewn out on the floor.
"Great," she sighed. "Taft, site to site me to sickbay and get Dr
Linczer on board."
In seconds, they were all in the comfy cofines of sickbay. Linczer
ran a medical tricorder over the mysterious being.
"He's gone into shock," she observed." The transporter had some kind
of effect on him, but I think it had to do with how he got here in the
first place. He was disoriented from something else to begin with."
"DS9 reports that they scanned a strange energy residue in the
holosuite. It may have been some sort of displacement he used,"
Nora told the doctor.
"I've never seen physiology quite like his. Hollow bones in a
humanoid body and wings, no less." Linczer gave the being a broad
based hypo to immunizize him to their germs. "I hope the transporter
filtered out any diseases he's carrying."
Captain Rich entered sickbay. "Ladies. What have we here?"
"Smith and the doctor here were attacked by this alien on DS9. I
brought him here as a precaution," Nora replied."I hope Commander Sisko
doesn't mind."
"We need a ship's Counselor for this sort of thing. Make sure that
when he awakes, someone reach out to him."
"I'll volunteer for that," Johnson told him.
"We are scheduled to leave within the hour," Rich mentioned."I'll
only need you on the bridge in an emergency."
"I'll see you tonight, Captain," Nora said playfully.

Captain's Personal Log. Stardate 48522.7
Lt Commander Smith will be in charge on this mission, it's more in
his overall field. I am thinking that perhaps he should not be so
burdened with playing both Operations Manager, second officer, and
Chief of the Science Department. Perhaps I should ask him what he wants
in that regard. Admiral Ferruci was not too pleased that I had made
Nessie the Chief Engineer. He was informed that many of the Engineering
staff resented an alien getting a field commission and rank over them.
Commander Martin was the one who took those complaints. I will be
spending time, checking on our new Avian guest and working on my Jedi
skills on the holodeck.

"Sensors picking up a Federation starship," The Lucifuge's helmsman
reported. "It's the USS GRIM."
"On viewer," Gul Levitt said, growing excited.
"That's like any other ship I've seen of theirs."
Levitt rubbed his chin and thought. "I deduce they are looking for so
called Maquis activity?"
"They are running extensive sweeps of the area."
"Decloak immediately. Raise the shields! Prepare for battle!" the Gul
announced.
The Cardassian officers all looked uneasy, but complied.

Smith sat in the command chair, none too happy about the progress they
were all making. The GRIM had followed the Voyager's warp trail and
detected small plasma surges, but nothing else. And there was no hint
of spatial distortions, wormholes or the like. They sent out various
probes into the Badlands, but they were unsuccessful too.
"Commander Smith," reported Lt. Averbach from Tactical."There's a
ship decloaking. Type II Galor Class Warship."
Smith rose slowly from his chair. "Since when do Cardassians use
cloaking devices?"
"They're powering up weapons systems," Ensign Logan warned from her
console at Ops.
Normally, Smith would have called Rich immediately to the bridge.
But for some reason, his mind went blank. No one else thought of it
either.
"What the devil do they want?" Dr Linczer said aghast. She had
been on the bridge, relishing the part time duty.
The image of the Cardassian gul filled the screen, countenance dark
and brooding."This is Gul Levitt of the Cardassian Fourth Order. Why
are you in the Badlands?"
"This is Lt. Commander Smith of the Starship GRIM. We are on an
investigative mission, nothing more, nothing less. And we are in
Federation territory. What are you doing with a cloaking device?"
"Maquis activity? Their disappearance?" Levitt took a stab. He
ignored Smith's initial questions.
"I was not aware that we are exchanging information, Gul Levitt. Now
why have you powered up your weapons?"
Levitt laughed.
" I hope you know, that if you take any aggressive action, we will
consider it an act of war," Linczer told the Gul.
"This does not concern our respective governments, doctor," smiled
Levitt."I too want to Avoid another senseless war between my people and
yours. My own government, though, has ignored an unprovoked attack
by your ship on a Cardassian outpost."
"Which was under the command of a Romulan conspirator," Smith
shot back.
"Tell me then, has Jennings been sentenced to die?" sneered Levitt.
"I demand retribution. You will hand over to me your MASTER program.
I will then let you go, no harm done."
Smith chuckled. "Heh Heh Heh. Good one, Levitt. And more preposterous
threats?"
"I have one of your officers and a Bajoran prisoner. I will send your
tactician their names."
"It's Monica and Thaz," gasped Averbach.
Smith cut the transmission with a hand gesture. Suddenly Rich and
Johnson emerged from the turbolift. They resumed their posts.
Smith felt groggy, as did the entire bridge crew. "Report Mr Smith.
Why wasn't I notified?"
"Captain," Smith said groggily."The Lucifuge, it's emitting some
sort of psionic pulse."
"A mental aboard?" Nora stated."MASTER, increase magnetic polarity to
block it out."
"Sir," warned Logan, they're accessing MASTER by remote.
"Same trick as before," mumbled Smith, running to OPS."What did Thaz
and Monica figure out? I've safeguarded MASTER from their invasive
techniques, it should..."
The Lucifuge fired it's photon pulse cannon which sent an enormously
potent burst that cut through the GRIM's shields easily. Too bad
MASTER adapted and phase/cloaked them a split moment before impact.
"Don't tell me Monica and Thaz are siding with the Cardassians now,"
sighed Rich.
"Sir, I don't want Monica hurt," implored Nora. "She's still my
cousin."
"Who had betrayed Starfleet and was instrumental in thousands of lost
lives," Rich replied. "Though she may be Levitt's prisoner, he may be
using her by threatening to kill Thaz. She may be working against her
will, but she will betray us to save him."
"I think our new transporters can get them," Logan advised."Even with
shields up."
"Lieutenant Johnson, target the Lucifuge's shield generators with
Antiproton canons."
Nora had a horrified expression, but keyed in the command
nonetheless.
Rich sighed. "Fire."

The antiproton blasts made quick work of the Lucifuge's shields. It
rendered them inoperative.
"Are you prepared to die?" Rich sent a message.
Nora fidgeted uncomfortably. She wanted them to rescue her cousin,
even if the girl was a traitor.
"I have a lock on both Monica and Thaz," Taft confirmed from the
Transporter Room.
"Standby," Rich told her. "Gul Levitt, I have no quarrel with you.
I am willing to forget you fired on us first. Formally release your
prisoners and we will go our separate ways."
Gul Levitt frowned, but he preferred discretion as the better part of
valor."Your weaponry is quite advanced for Starfleet indeed," Levitt
observed."And I am a rational man. But my prisoners will be handed over
to my government and be tried by Cardassians. They were the ones
responsibile for the loss of your ship to begin with."
"Believe me, your government will be hearing from the Federation
Ambassador on this," Rich replied."Now, I suggest you make like a tree
and leave."
Levitt cut the transmission. The bridge crew of the GRIM looked
expectabtly at Rich, most notably, Nora.
Rich said quietly."Only Monica, then. But this is against my better
judgement. Beam her into the brig. Make sure, she cannot access any of
our systems. I want a security officer assigned to her at all times."
Nora took the compromise."Taft, energize!"
In a few moments, Taft reported back."Transport complete" But the
Chief of Security was already inside the turbolift and on her way.

First Officer's Log. Stardate 48530.6
I have welcomed the new personnel and informed them that the GRIM
will be arriving back within the day. I made myself available to our
new ship's Counselor, and she seemed rather cold. I reviewed her
personnel file and disovered she was linked with the USS Fulton crew.
Her paramour was the security chief at the time.

We have returned to Starbase DS9 to pick up the rest of the
personnel. I cannot say I am pleased with having one of my former
trusted officers in the brig. I have yet to speak with her either.
The Science Teams' search proved fruitless. We are to depart for
the Trandoshan Home World and deliver Bossk's ship back to them.
From there, I will concentrate on finding out where this "raptor"
being came from.

Commander Martin rang the chime to the Counselor's Office.
"Come in," Daniels called. She was a brunette with olive skin,
a few years younger than he.
"Counselor, I hope I haven't interrupted anything."
"Not at all, sir. I was reviewing everyone's psychological profiles.
Your past Counselor left me her information. It seems you are very
odd."
Martin smiled lopsidedly."Elena and I were..."
"Commander, what can I do for you?"
"Perhaps you'd like to have dinner? Get to know the senior staff
better?"
"I assume it's in the Captain's dining room?"
"1800 hours. We're having Danny's famous quiches tonight."

Raptor awoke in sickbay, hungry. Ptre'sonians had a high metabolic
rate and ate twice as much as humans. He felt refreshed, like he had
been asleep for days.
"Hello," Dr Linczer greeted him.
Raptor jerked up on the biobed and surveyed his surroundings. He had
never seen a room with such sophistication. Imagine finding yourself in
some surreal world with 2 dimensions. Raptor felt like this and worse.
"Stay right there, pal," Nora warned, holding the business end of
a phaser in his direction.
"Your sorcery astounds me," the alien remarked. He saw his sack
on the other side of the room.
"How did you get here?" Tracey asked.
Raptor stared at her with his inhuman eyes. He sensed no evil in the
two mammalian/simian like beings. They were not at all grotesque, but
such a feat was not incapable of the gods.
"I had no choice. My world was being judged by creatures who have
a higher place in existence than my race. Such is the cycle of things.
To escape their fate, I braved the unknown."
"He's telling the truth," the doctor told the security chief. She
was monitoring her medical readouts.
"Tracey, I think he's otherdimensional like Nessie."
"Have you heard of the United Federation of Planets?" the CMO asked.
Raptor nodded in negative.
"How bout the New Republic?"
Raptor's face grew more puzzled.
"The N'si? The T'rexx?"
"We do not discount the possibility of life on other worlds, but
the only life I know of was that which existed on mine."
"Do you know of any stars or systems that we could compare?" probed
Johnson.
"That's it! The stars have shifted!" Raptor clasped his hands
together."I need to see them if you can show me."

Dahria sat in the Science Lab, reading xenobiology reports on avian/
humanoid species in the known Galaxy. There were many, but none of them
were quite like their guest. In the Mykan Empire, all life was mykanum
based, carbon based bodies unable to exist. It fascinated her to
study the countless life forms that actually existed here in the Milky
Way Galaxy. And she had a human body of her own and the memories that
went with it. She was off duty for the rest of the day, so she wore
an old style Minidress that left nothing to the imagination. Nora,
an aspiring beautician had done her hair in the beauty parlor that
afternoon, in a manner which would," Knock them dead!" Dahria hoped
that she hadn't gone too far with the deep red lip gloss.
Someone entered the room. "May I help you?" Lt. Commander Smith
asked.
"Beavis, it's me!" she regarded him saucily.
"Ensign Wesson?" Smith asked, bewildered.
"Yes. I'm off duty, but I wanted to study here in the lab. I hope
it's alright..."
Smith grabbed her in one swift motion and kissed her hungrily, like
Dagwood did to Blondie.
After a heated exchange, they both caught their collective breaths.
Dahria was more shocked, at being bent over backwards. "Wow."
The Ops Manager pushed data padds, tricorders, and small equipment
aside. A sinister grin on his face, he propped Wesson up on the
counter.
"Here sir?" Dahria giggled.

Nora stood in front of the cell where her cousin lay. Monica had been
treated for the injuries suffered during the Cardassian's "torture"
sessions. She seemed distanced and withdrawn, not at all like the
former fine Officer she was months ago. Nora knew it had to be more
than being a Cardassian prisoner. Thaz and the Maquis had changed her
radically. Thaz, moreso than anything.
"I wish you could have your quarters back, Mon."
Monica held her knees close to her chest, as she sat on the small
slab that passed for a bed.
"Captain Rich and Commander Martin want me to talk to you before they
visit you."
Monica just stared straight ahead, causing her cousin to wonder if
she heard what was being said.
"I'll bring some of the Quiche Lorraine down to you," Nora promised,
then swiftly walked away. She rounded a corner then began to cry.
The dish had always been a favorite of theirs.
